Hanging at the Gramercy Park Hotel is a rock ‘n’ roll experience. I’ve stayed there a few times and without a doubt, you always see someone interesting. There was the time the Red Hot Chili Peppers were having a full-on business meeting in the hotel lobby. Random. Then one night at the Rose bar, Sean Penn and Tim Robbins walked in. Sean Penn had the most intense stare. Exactly as you would expect. And Tim Robbins was really tall. And seemed to have a naughty sparkle in his eye. They were instantly surrounded by beautiful women. Adding to the mix was Sienna Miller who was swooning around with some rock star dude (this was obviously pre-post-pre Jude Law days) in a bohemian daze. I can see why people of various shades of fame like to hang out there. The whole place is so comfortable, with low unobtrusive lighting, it’s seductive. On one side of the room is a stone fireplace and decorating the walls are these huge paintings by Jean-Michel Basquiat and Andy Warhol. The high ceilings and the low slung velvet chairs give the bar a cozy feel. Since the actual rooms can be a bit cramped and on the dark side, it makes sense to check-in then high tail it down to the bar. The hotel room details however, are eclectic and totally original…
