There are many delightful things I could write about The Standard. Not only is it a super cool hotel, with an incredible rooftop bar, it also serves up some of the best donuts on the planet. Oh sure, I can hear you all shouting at me, ‘Just because you live in New York, you think everything is better there’. Well, sometimes, it just is. At the risk of enraging you even more – these donuts of which I speak are made fresh to order. They are sprinkled in sugar with a cinnamon twist. Once you sit your lazy brunch self down at your cozy table, order the donuts, immediately. Then, as the waiter delivers them to your table, fresh and warm – sniff in anticipation. Then dig in – it’s like biting into an angel’s wings. Okay, that’s a bit weird. How about, biting into a cherub’s soft fluffy, sugar sprinkled arse? Yes, that is exactly what it tastes like. So next time you are in New York – or if you live here – make a reservation for brunch at The Standard Grill and pig out, on a little cherub ass, also know as “homemade raised donuts in cinnamon sugar”. You can thank me later.
