The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee

Having lived in London, I hold a special affection for the British. You think you understand where you are going with them and then sometimes, you have no idea. That’s part of the charm. That English barrier thing can keep you on your toes.

Which brings us to the Queen and her Diamond Jubilee year. Not too long ago, Her Majesty was being vilified for her treatment of the late Princess Diana. Now, thanks to her handsome grandson, Prince William and his uber thin and gorgeous wife Princess Catherine, she is riding a new wave of popularity. Their wedding last year was amaze balls. Totes amaze balls. Princess Catherine’s dress by Alexander McQueen was so divine; they are almost no words to describe her fabulousness. How did she insert herself so comfortably into what the Queen refers to as ‘the firm’? She brought the Queen homemade jam for Christmas. For reals.

The point of this post was suppose to be the Queen, and in a round about way it is, but I think the reflected glory of Prince William and Princess Catherine (why they changed her name to start with a C, I’ll never get) has raised her image. That is why this Diamond Jubilee, I’ll be celebrating. Because even HRM, one of the most wealthy and powerful women in the world, had to reinvent herself. A truly modern Queen 2.0.
