The Alexander McQueen store in the Meatpacking District seems to be constantly under a shroud of construction. Through the steel scaffolding, as you walk by the store, the striking images are so alluring, they seem to have their own ethereal pull. The beautiful fashion in the store’s window complements the effect, allowing a gentle, dulling effect on the harsh glare of New York. The city takes on a softer, more dewy English countryside feeling with every new look. I still cannot believe that this incredible designer is no longer with us. He is, was, an original and daring artist. The brand, with McQueen’s protege Sarah Burton at the helm, continues to make breathtaking work. This piece in particular screams elegance with a naughty twist, especially if you examine that front slit. It comes dangerously close to ruining a sweet English girl’s reputation. Which means that maybe Princess Catherine is closer to Kate Moss than we think? That naughty but nice line is one the Alexander McQueen brand loves to blur. The idea of two very different British ladies wearing his designs seems very McQueen – both salty and sweet. Check out this FNO invite to savor the brand’s sauciness.
I’m including the ‘hologram’ clip of Kate Moss from Alexander McQueen’s Autumn/Winter 2006 collection. Watching it gives me chills. You?
