Not long after I moved to New York, I saw a girl wearing a fabulous winter coat. It looked snuggly and warm but somehow remained stylish and well tailored. The girl gave me the designer’s name, Mara Hoffman, who I’ve since discovered, is the queen of the coolest fashion prints ever.
This past summer I bought a gorgeous dress with a kind of turquoise Tahitian blaze print. It’s described as a ‘florescent tribal Veracruz’ on her site, but hey, you say tribal, I say Tahitian. The point is, it’s colorful with an uplifting print. I love the original color combination with the textile design and lightweight fabric. It’s easy to pack and wearing it is like an instant mood booster. I can hear my L.A self-saying, “I mean come on guys, chill. Let’s do some yoga and look awesome later in our Mara Hoffman dresses okay?” In fact, if I lived in L.A. I would wear her clothes all the time. Instead, I’ll settle for looking and feeling awesome on holiday.
Which brings us to Mara Hoffman swimwear. According to her site, she started creating swimwear in 2008, although she has been designing since 2000. The bright details are what makes her swimwear stand out. She also creates cover-ups and light cotton jumpsuits that are sophisticated enough to wear from la playa to an evening lounging pool side.
And for those of you living in New York, Mara Hoffman is having a sample sale tomorrow, Fri 7th Dec 10am – 8pm and Sat 8th Dec 11am-7pm at 168 Bowery at Kenmare St. Subway: J, Z to Bowery. ‘Tis the season to spoil yourself! See you there!
