At 10th Avenue and 18th Street, next to the HighLine, there is an amazing ‘art work’ billboard. It’s always changing and it’s always something cool and unexpected, like these two zebras. I love how they’re staring at all the New Yorkers curiously gazing at them. Once you’re up on the HighLine, you get to eye level with the billboard and have the vantage point of observing the sprawling artwork, almost within reach. It’s a clever addition to the HighLine, a place for New Yorkers – and so many tourists! – to walk amongst trees and be engaged with public art. The billboard is actually part of their public art program – and previous artists have included the irreverent David Shrigley (I have these salt and pepper shakers he designed). Maybe next time it could be something like this?
